/EDIT. I added charcoal, and though it is not done yet, I want to upload what I have because it's WAAYYYY better than it was before. I think. I've yet to do the hair and make the skin a bit more realistic
(April 4, 1979 - January 22, 2008) [link] is the original, and by looking at it now I just realised how horridly I did his hair, haha. I'll edit it later. My excuse is that I couldn't see it behind the word "Entertainment" because I was using a cover of the one I had. |

I am all that's left. Or maybe, I'm all that ever was. What about you? Do you remember your true name?

Wonderful expression on his face. Really realistic
The eyes seem kinda off, in the photo it's off too but you can try to make his right eye a little bit more "closed" maybe?
Other than that, the only things that keep you from conquering the popular topic area are some key topics:
-The skin. I can't do that myself either, and I guess I can't be helpful but... Anyways.
-The shirt! Get some very dark pencils and charcoal, girl!
And that's all I can offer with my incompetence

Raw intensity lies in...
silence.
I shall have an updated version at the end of the week, and have it up on monday perhaps. Otherwise, I am proud of it already because I haven't drawn this religiously since my Serenity picture that I did in 2006 and uploaded a few months ago. x.x
Otherwise, I shall do more drawing so I get real good

About drawing, I know what you mean - practice leads to a state near ' perfection ' (even though perfecion is a very strong word, but you get my point
About what to draw, I believe you should do something that you feel comfortable doing (for instance if you like doing portraits, like this one, you could do some more). Then you can start expanding to other things - maybe trying to exteriorize thoughts or moments through compositions in a more creative way. One thing that I love to do is to try to picture a scene out of a certain music I like, and then try to make it come to life, so I can show those thoughts to others.
Don't know if this helps or not, hope so

If it's realistic, then I won't stop until I get it as close to the original as I can

I'm not going to be nitpicky to the details since I don't really draw realistically that much at all. THIS is how Heath usually comes out whennever I draw him:

Since you seem to be mentioning the new Entertainment weekly as your drawing subject, I have to ask: Didja like the article? I thought it was the most touching tribute to him and I've read it over and over.
